Nutritionist Advises Nigerians On Consumption Of Moringa. A nutritionist, Mrs Patience Pama, on Monday in Kaduna advised Nigerians to include Moringa in their diet, to enhance healthy living. Pama, who works with the Ministry of Science and Technology, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that Moringa had anti- inflammatory properties that reduced the severity of symptoms of joint pains According to her, Moringa also reduces fungal and viral infections, kidney stones and aids healing of injuries. She said the leaves of Moringa helped relived headache and stop bleeding from a shallow cut. "Moringa has credible health benefits over a wide range of health issues,'' she said. Pama said that Moringa contained proteins, vitamins and minerals as an antioxidant that helped to protect cells from damage. "Oil from Moringa seeds is used as foods, perfume, hair care product and machine lubricant. "It is a good source of protein, vitamins, amino acid and various phenolics and provide energy without sugar." The nutritionist said that Moringa also reduced swelling, boost the immune system and could serve as nutritional supplement or tonic by some people. She explained that regular consumption of Moringa could also boost body immunity and would provide nourishment to the eyes and the brain. She advised Nigerians to take Moringa regularly, adding that the leaves could promote metabolism with bio-available ingredients and control blood pressure . "Moringa lowers the appearance of wrinkles and promotes the normal functioning of liver and kidney," she said. Mikel afraid of scoring more goals JOHN Obi Mikel claims that he is scared to score goals – thanks to boss Jose Mourinho. Mikel grabbed a rare goal in Chelsea’s 2-0 FA Cup win at Derby on Sunday. But he claims his woeful tally of just four strikes in 300 appearances is because of threats from Mourinho if he abandons his anchorman role for goal glory. The Nigerian star broke the deadlock with a header to steer Chelsea safely into the fourth round. Mourinho took the mickey out of him afterwards, saying he did not realise Mikel was such a prolific force in front of goal. But the 26-year-old revealed he only pops up once in a blue moon for a reason. Mikel was quoted in Daily Star as saying, “I wish I could score every time. But the most important thing the manager wants me to do is to keep the shape for the team. “He gets more upset when we concede a goal on the counter-attack. That is when he gets really, really mad. “He’s always wanted me to be there in front of the back four and I’ve always done that job.” That does not mean he had to hold back on celebrating his milestone. “I was told it was my 300th game just before the match,” he said. “My job was to get on the first post for the free-kicks – and that is exactly what I did. “I just want to keep going and enjoy my time here. I will just keep doing what I do and help this team be successful and win trophies.” Mikel believes there is no better man than Mourinho to be in the saddle as the season starts to get serious. He added, “He is the best, without a shadow of doubt. He is just great. He is great around the dressing room and around the training ground. “We have the best manager. He is unbelievable. He knows how to communicate with the players. He always wants us to play a certain way and give 110 per cent. If you don’t, you’re out.” That is why Mikel feels Chelsea can still make a telling push in the title race. Ike Uche’s hat-trick sinks Vallecano Super Eagles forward Ikechukwu Uche increased his goal tally in the current La Liga campaign with a hat trick as Villarreal thrashed Rayo Vallecano 5-2 at the Estadio del Rayo Vallecano on Monday night. Uche who played the entire duration of the encounter shot the visitors into an early lead in the tenth minute off a Jeremy Perbet assist for his seventh goal of the season in nine starts from 15 appearances off available 18 league fixtures so far played by the Yellow Submarines in the current season. Perbet who set up the Nigerian for the opener doubled the lead two minutes later to put Villarreal in the driving seat and with four minutes left to play in the first half, the Frenchman extended his side’s lead for his second on the night to ensure a comfortable 3-0 away lead at half time with Moisés Bordonado providing both assists. 2013 Glo CAF Award: Analysts favour Mikel With 24 hours to the next Glo CAf Awards, football analysts have been making different permutations with clear-cut justifications on who deserves to wear the crown of African Player of the Year for 2013. Majority of the opinions however favour Nigerian International and Chelsea Midfielder, John Mikel Obi to win the Award. The top three nominees for the 2013 Glo CAF Footballer of the year Award was announced last week by Africa’s highest football authority, the Confederation of African Football (CAF). The top three lists released includes Nigeria’s Mikel Obi, Cote D’Ivoire’s Yaya Toure and his country mate, Didier Drogba of Galasaray. Drogba plies his trade with Turkish Club, Galatasaray while, Toure, the defending champion plays for Manchester City. Mikel Obi is a regular feature for Chelsea FC of London. According to Mohammed Aderibigbe of Precise Sports, Mikel Obi holds the ace having won the African Cup of Nations with the Super Eagles and Europa Cup with Chlesea FC of London. The same view was corroborated by Sam Smith of Sports Degrees who opined that Mikel deserves the Award due to his exploits with Chelsea FC and the Super Eagles, adding that if Mikel succeeds, Nigeria will be returning to the list of countries producing Glo Caf Award winners since 1999 when Kanu Nwankwo won the Award. Chris Abraham, a sports pundit however differs in opinion. He is tipping Yahaya Toure for the Award. According to him “Yaya will nick it again, he is the leading contender and the fact that he recently won the BBC African Player of the Year makes him a clear favourite”.
